MPA Computers has decided to black out our website in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) for 24 hours starting January 18th at 12:00am. Other highly trafficked websites (including Wikipedia and Reddit) will be blacking out their websites as well.
What are SOPA and PIPA?
SOPA and PIPA devastate the overall freedom the of web and will drastically affect how businesses that offer online marketing and development (like MPA) use the internet. Websites that allow user uploaded content (YouTube, forums, etc.) as well as search engines (Google) will be ultimately changed forever. Our goal is to bring awareness of these two bills to our friends and clients. Learn more about SOPA, PIPA, and the blackout initiative by visiting www.sopablackout.org/learnmore.
Here is a list of websites, organizations, and individuals that are opposing these bills: www.cdt.org/report/list-organizations-and-individuals-opposing-sopa.
You can also sign a petition to vote NO for SOPA and PIPA using Google's online petition page: www.google.com/landing/takeaction.
How does MPA's blackout affect me and my website?
Don't fret! You can still use our site and our client sites will not be shut down. If you have any questions during these 24 hours about the blackout, feel free to contact us.
